Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is a salvage procedure just like cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, in which extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is started in an emergency on patients who have had a witnessed cardiac arrest (CA) and on whom the conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR) has failed or is likely to fail and when they have a destination treatment available.
