It begins with an assessment of the patient with a 3-factor checklist as routinely used clinically by Dr. Gunjan Desai, Consultant liver, pancreas and gastrointestinal surgeon at liver and digestive diseases clinic, Mumbai, Maharashtra. This includes

  • - Patient performance status
  • - Extent of disease using LI-RADS or BCLC
  • - Status of liver function - Child-Pugh and MELD score as well as presence or absence of portal hypertension
