Role of PET scan / Nuclear Medicine in the management of stage IV colon cancer and rectal cancer

Rectal cancer management requires a multimodality approach and the role of PET scan/ Nuclear Medicine in the management of stage IV colon cancer and rectal cancer is always debated. This video by Consultant nuclear medicine Dr. Pallavi Patil will surely be useful to everyone who deals with these patients or for their upcoming exams.

The video has two parts

Part 1 - Role of PET scan

Part 2 - Role of hepatobiliary scintigraphy and other advances in the management of metastatic colorectal cancer. The video is a part of our webinar 6 on the management of metastatic colorectal cancer. All the videos can be viewed in the webinar playlist where they will be uploaded shortly.

The Use of PET-CT in the Assessment of Patients with Rectal Cancer is very well described in the first part with actual cases. Though NCCN or the national comprehensive cancer network does not recommend a PET scan, as pointed out in the talk, it is definitely used in practical scenarios. The video will clearly highlight when and when not to use pet-ct in metastatic colorectal cancer management.

The second part of the video is a summary of the upcoming advances in the fascinating field of nuclear medicine and covers the topics such as functioning liver remnant assessment using mebrofenin, radiotherapy planning as well as prediction of future liver augmentation using portal vein embolization by hepatobiliary scintigraphy.

So, let us have a look at the video. Stay tuned to our next webinar and leave topics in the comments section below or email us and we will surely include them in our discussion.
