The mesh placement in ventral hernia surgery can be intraperitoneal Onlay (IPOM) where we use a composite mesh OR retro rectus/ preperitoneal where we can use a normal prolene mesh.
In open surgery, the mesh can be placed Onlay, inlay, or retro-rectus/ retro-muscular as well as pre-peritoneal and these terms often create confusion. Hence, this video has been created based on the international consensus of this nomenclature and will help to clarify these terms.
